ACE Red!

Recently, we built a beautiful ACE Red Speedhound with a Nuvinci internally-geared hub.  it’s a sweet commuter with some beautiful lines and curves.  Pictures of this beauty are up on our flickr stream.

Carbon Drive Systems and Speedhound

Right after posting about our NAHBS New Black fixed gear bike, we found this great post on the Carbon Drive Systems Blog: While you’re there, check out their website to learn more about this fantastic alternative to the chain.

Back in New Black

Our NAHBS booth also featured a fixed gear ONLY ONE in New Black.  What makes this bike special is the Gates belt drive, with 55 tooth front and 20 tooth rear sprockets.  We used the Carbon Drive 12 mm wide belt, which Gates suggests for fixed gear and MTB applications.  It’s 20% stronger than the normal 10 mm belt, so it’s great for skid stopping.   The Carbon Drive fixed gear sprocket threads to any standard track hub and is secured with a normal lockring.

Speedhound in New Black

Speedhound’s New Black is a matte finish that was developed for solar panels, so it absorbs sunlight like crazy.  You could say it’s our warmest color.

NAHBS Show Bike
ONLY ONE in Nickel Plate

Our ONLY ONE with a nickel-plated finish was a total eye catcher at the recent NAHBS show in Austin, Texas.  There were so many cameras flashing we almost handed out sunglasses.  We kitted this bike out with some rare French components from Speedhound’s parts trove.  The highlights include 1st generation Huret Allvit rear derailleur (1958-60), Huret lever-action front derailleur (1955), Stronglight 49D cranks (introduced in 1935 and produced into the 1980s), TA chainrings and bottom bracket, Maillard Course 14-24 freewheel, Lyotard 460D pedals, Mafac cantilever brakes and levers,  Ideale 90 saddle with Duralumin rails, and Philippe randonneur bar.  We built the wheels with Campagnolo Gran Sport hubs (1950s),  French made “Record” tubular rims (390 grams each), DT Competition butted spokes and Challenge Paris-Roubaix tires.  Honjo hammered fenders and a French rack from a 1950s 650B touring bike complete the bling. Oh, and a lot buffing and polishing.

The official NAHBS photo crew produced some amazing results.  Take a look at
